HOMECOMING  '09

The Roils left Ms Waltraud with heavy stomachs and heavy hearts.

They knew she needed deerhounds in her life, and the accommodations were five star, but they had all been made to promise to return home.

Another visit was planned when she would take them to Maes Howe. "We love you, Ms Waltraud! We'll be back!" and in a wink they were being greeted by Fearna, Flicka, and Fergus who led them to a lovely sunroom or in this case moonroom where they all fell quite fast asleep.

In the morning, Siofra thought she had never tasted finer Porridge. She realized it made her nostalgic for puppyhood, motherhood, and a Good Cook. Porridge bespeaks love and now in her mind it would always be associated with this magical trip and magical land. They had even been greeted by spirits. How fitting.
And magical the day was. Grancy thought he saw boggles or brownies or boggarts or something--his mind had wandered during his lessons--but they looked like they had little bows and really sharp arrows so whatever they were, he thought it best not to try to chase them. Besides, it was too much fun romping on the beach even though the heron reminded him of Grama scolding. Jeordie thought so, too.

Sir George showed them the Boar's Leap which popped Grancy's jaws whereupon he popped open his mouth with, "Whoa, they've got boars in Arkansas, but nothing near that big!" Siofra gave Grancy a look that said  Close your mouth or you will suffer my wrath later, and he complied, but his little eyes were still bugged.

It was The Ruins that gave everyone dreams, at least they thought it was. Siofra dreamt of the Roil Wedding, and her daughters spilling lavender buds, her son the shaman, Abbey and Paris those oldsters in love and the wild boar pulling the cart instead of Annie. He was a pretty big pig, but seemed to be enjoying pulling the Roil Couple and being able to join in the festivities. Siofra woke up shaking her head. She was going soft these days: crying at weddings, releasing prey, dreaming of tame boars. She straightened her spine and set about to find Grancy.

It turns out Grancy and Jeordie were helping with the Cullen Skink--at least they thought they were helping--and despite their additions and distractions, it turned out quite delicious. Siofra was certainly enjoying the food here, and Grancy played so hard he was just always hungry. He actually minded his manners during dinner and while he could not refrain from asking questions later, he did, at least, raise his paw. Siofra curled herself around him as he snored while Chance positioned himself near Jeordie.

Siofra wondered what she would dream tonight.
